Too Many Miles

Not plump, my college roommate.
You might have called her big-boned,
weight carving her hips and thighs
into caricatures of fertility goddesses
we studied in History 101.
Taller than I was, a small
white-haired woman stares back at me
from this photo sent by a friend.
Goddess long gone, she seems deflated,
as a tire might be after too many
miles on the road.
