The decade of the nineties....an incredibly
difficult time, already described on the 'about me' page. By 1990, all twelve
of a close family of aunts and uncles have died, along with her beloved
father in 1986. Her mother makes the difficult decision to sell the Pageland
home and move to Florida.
The loss of friends when CFIDS hits is devastating. Even more devastating is the
discovery that few doctors know about this illness, that there is no magic cure
and--worse--she is faced by ridicule from doctors who tell her it's
all in in her head. In 1996, her mother dies.
Suddenly, age no longer matters when a last parent dies.
It's hard.
She has now lost her voice for over three years
and it's clear that the doctors have no interest in trying to discover
why She has become something many doctors hate, save a few gems---an
unsolvable problem. A problem their tests can't cipher.
In the late nineties, a cranio-sacral therapist
begins working with her and also becomes a solid friend. For the first
time some of the blurred vision begins to lift, as well as the ability to keep
her balance while walking. Then she finally discovers a good doctor. The voice?
Allergies. Work with the sinuses and she was able to talk again. In 1999, almost
a decade later, with the generous help primarily of these two people she is able
to sign onto the computer and send and receive e-mail, then begin writing
poetry.
Some of the friends who stood by ......thankfully new ones met through the
internet.
(Barbara, friend since 1970, Margie since 1980) Lloyd (met on the internet, now friends in person) (Marilyn, friend from college) (kev, online friend since 1999, from Canada) |
(Eloise, CF therapist and friend since the late nineties) (Joe (friend and colleague in the late sixties, now rediscovered)
|
Below is a late nineties photo taken at the front door of the CFIDS Clinic. Notice the
sign above their door.

The rest to be continued in 'real time' Shall we see what this decade
brings??
