Chocolate Skies

beneath chocolate skies, guitars cry 
across an alley strewn with yesterday's headlines

my toes dig deep under covers
fingers grasp at shadows 
lightning-strobed onto ceiling and wall

head tucked under one arm,
you float into late dreams
confess old lies and deceptions
sit unwanted vigil
until the street cleaner's clanging awakens,
whisking away all remains of the night
